Detection of Viral DNA from Preserved Stool

Detection of Viral, Bacterial and Human Genomic DNA from Preserved Stool Samples

A preview of this application note (paraphrased from the introduction):

Stool is an excellent sample source for diagnosing cases of viral and bacterial gastroenteritis. It is also a non-invasive source of human genomic DNA from the colon that is often used to diagnose colorectal cancer. Isolating high quality DNA from stool isn’t easy. To help preserve samples during transport, Norgen Biotek developed a Stool Nucleic Acid Preservative that can be used to safely ship samples at ambient temperature. This application note illustrates how the DNA isolated from stool samples (preserved with Norgen’s Stool Nucleic Acid Preservative) can be used directly in sensitive downstream diagnostic assays such as real-time PCR.
